Grand Canal Canter 2025

On Sunday, 2nd March, 3 Honiton Running Club members went to Tiverton Canal to take part in the Grand Canal Canter. Steve Davey took on the half marathon distance which started at Tiverton Basin with the turning point at Samford Peverell. He did well to come 30th  finishing in 1 hour 49 minutes and coming 1st in his age category. The winner was Tim Pratt who finished in 1:17. Steve’s wife, Judy,  and daughter, Jo Buxton, took part in the full marathon which involved the same route as the half marathon and then they had to do it all again! Jo came in 4th overall and 1st lady in 3:48 and Judy was 6th overall and 3rd lady in 3:52. Both achieved their goals; Jo wanted to complete a marathon before her youngest baby was one year old and Judy wanted to achieve a time that would provide her with a good for age place at next year’s London Marathon.  The winner was Marsh Pullen in 3:09.  It was beautiful weather, ideal running conditions, although a little cold at -1 degree at the start time of 8am in the morning. It remained cold but the sun shone and turned out into a perfect spring day. Being along the canal, the route was almost totally flat except for a climb over a bridge to cross a road which the marathoners had to endure 4 times. It’s a low key event with 42 runners finishing the marathon and 98 for the half marathon. There was also a 10k on offer for those who fancied a shorter race which had 45 finishers.
