On the very warm evening of Saturday, 25th April 21 Honiton Running Club members took part in the Kilmington Kanter which is also the first of the Club Championship races. This is a tough multi-terrain race with 2 long uphill sections and 2 long down sections (the 2nd downhill section being the last 1.5 miles of the race). The race didn’t disappoint and there were some great inter-club battles within the main race. Peter Nichols set his stall out early and was the first HRC runner back gaining maximum points. He was followed in by Ben Stone and then Hadleigh Davies. Four runners followed separated by only 30 seconds! Tim Pepper was the first of the fab 4 followed by Richard Harvey who then edged out Jay Sweetman by 6 seconds who in return held off Mark Dallyn by only 4 seconds! After a short break of a minute, Emma Davey was the first HRC female to cross the line, followed 10 seconds later by Rebecca Stevens who also picked up the 1stFV50 prize. This was her second great run of the day. Howard Bidmead was next home closely followed by Rachel Hennessey. Steve Davey, who was also on his second run of the day, followed up a good Parkrun with another solid run. Lyn Pike was next home, followed by Ian White who had a great run finishing as 1st MV70. Kate Harding ran well to follow Ian with Jim Kimber just edging out Katy Lancaster to be the next finisher. Alison Hayward followed and then a rather exciting sprint finish between 2 newer members with Jenny Rawlins showing Geraldine Terry a clean pair of heels to beat her on the line! Final HRC member to cross the line was Peta Goodman about 40 seconds later. The 4km race was won by HRC junior Felix Sullivan in a time of 18mins 19 secs. In the 1km junior race young Edward Sweetman came 9th in 5 mins 29 secs which was a great result when you consider Edward is 5yrs old and all the runners who beat him were 9yrs old!
