The inaugural Sidbury Three Peaks 10km trail race took place on Sunday 6th of September on a very warm morning with clear visibility. It has been billed as one of toughest 10km in East Devon, the demanding off-road loop climbs Castle Hill, Bald Hill, and Evergreen Hill on the Sidbury Manor Estate. The elevation is over 1,200 ft of ascent across private estate trails not normally open to the public. This is what makes this event unique, not to mention a huge challenge!
5 runners from Honiton Running Club place themselves on the start line ready to face the uphill to the first flag on the top of Castle Hill. Adam Ferris was 1st back for the club in a rounded 1 hour 21st place and 3rd in his age group. The next 4 runners played cat and mouse all through the course Richard Harris 43rd in a time of 1.05, Ian White 49th in a time of 1.07 and reaching 1st in his age group., Paula Ferris and Mark Newson ran the course together 56 and 57th place in a time of 1.10 with Paula placing 2nd in her age group.
All runners received a handmade laser wooden medal from cherry and sourced from 10 miles of the start line. There were 110 runners in total and the event was won by David Knapman in a time of 44.17.
Huge thanks to organisers, marshalls and supporters for an excellent local village running event.
